Extreme Shitter Makeover.

I have four days off work for the new years holiday and God help the children, I was not made to be a stay at home mother.  We've had no plans and haven't left the house much which equates to me cleaning every nook and cranny while the kids play with their toys or watch television and fight about who is touching something that belongs to them or who got to pick the last show.

On Friday I looked around at my house and thought to myself...I haven't put a dime into decorating this year and my house looks BLAH.  Not that I'm a decorating freak or want my house to look all Better Homes and Gardens but I do enjoy fixing my place up when I can.

So I went into K-Mart....yeah, I didn't say I decorate from Pier One people.  I went to K-Mart and picked up a few things for our upstairs bathroom.

The "old" bathroom had nasty blue rugs that have been washed so many times, they had brown feet marks on them.  The "old" bathroom has had no handles on the cabinets since we moved in almost five years ago.  The "old" bathroom had an ugly blue shower curtain Jon found on clearance and has hung with one missing a hook for entirely too long.

For less than $75.00 about one hour of work, I transformed our bathroom and even though Jon was cracking jokes about me getting a wild hair up my butt, he actually uttered the words "I like it" after he christened it I was finished decorating.  Compliments don't fall from his mouth often so, I know I did a good job.

I have always wanted to do something with this bathroom but we have a a lighthouse border around the top of the room and the reason it is there is because there was an equally nasty border underneath that I couldn't get off when we moved,  My color choices have been limited by that damn border.

(Yes we have a window inside the shower)

The problem I have now is that I'm seeing things that could be done differently in other rooms and I think to myself "it shouldn't cost much to just ______(fill in the blank)" so thankfully we go back to work on Tuesday so I can stop looking at these four walls and wanting to change them.

But before they allow me back into work on Tuesday, I have somebody coming tomorrow to rip the fireplace out of our living room.  Another rash decision on my part?  Um, yeah....stay tuned.

Funny how those little DIY projects suddenly turn into a long list of BIG DIY projects!

All that for $75 and one hour? Imagine what you'd get done with $750 and ten hours! You did good.

Lighthouse border? Paint over it. Yes, there are paints that will go over tiles, I've done it...
The bathroom looks fabulous now, great job!
One question - why angle the handles on the cabinet?
